How to make Bath bombs/bath fizzies!

A lot of people always think that bath bombs are really hard to make but they really aren't  There are two main ingredients, which is citric acid and bicarbonate of soda. When these two mixtures combine together they form bath bombs. The bicarb is the base for the bath bomb and citric acid makes it fizz. We use a ratio of 2 parts bicarb and 1 part citric acid. I would also recommend doing this outside! Anyway onto the recipe!

Equipment:

A bowl
A whisk
Moulds (I use silicone ice cube moulds from IKEA)

Ingredients:

1/2 cup of bicarbonate of soda
1/4 cup of citric acid
A couple of drop of colourant (I use food colours, personally
Fragrance of your choice (I use eau de toilette)

Method:

1. Sieve and measure out the bicarb of soda and make sure there is no lumps as you don't want clumps in your bath bombs.

2. Measure and add your citric acid to bowl and mix together until all the bicarb and citric acid  is combined together.

3. Now you want to add your colourant and fragrance. You have to be very careful with this as you don't want to wet the mixture too much or you'll set the mixture off too early.

4. Keep adding the colourant and fragrance until the get the desired colour and scent. An easy way to know when to stop is to get some mixture in your hands and squeeze it together. If it sticks together then you know its done but if  it can hardly hold its self together then obviously you need more. Keep doing this test after every drop you add.

5. Now its time to press the mixture into your moulds. When filling the moulds, you want to tightly store in as much mixture as possible. This prevents gaps in the bath bombs which can cause the bath bombs to break when handled. Use the technique of: pulling the mixture in and pressing, like this...

6. Leave in a dry environment for about 2 to 3 hours or until they are set and there is no moisture in them.

7. This is the fun bit!! Pop the bathbombs out of the moulds and wrap them up. You can give them as presents to family & friends or you can keep them for your self and indulge in a warm bubbly bath! Here's one from today's batch:

As you can see, this recipe is super simple and easy to do! So have a go and see for yourself!  Annia-x-
